Mindfulness Skills

01.10.2024

When a person who is far from psychology first encounters the topic of mindfulness, it causes him confusion. “What kind of awareness? Am I a three-year-old kid? Of course, I live consciously!” But this is not always the case. Unfortunately, a lot of people live their lives unconsciously, no matter how strange it may sound. And it’s not even about the fact that they live by a template. The topic of mindfulness is much deeper. Let’s look into it in more detail.

In simple terms, mindfulness is a person’s ability to mentally and physically experience the present moment. This includes several different skills.

Here are some of them:
• Understand and accept what is happening around you;
• Be able to recognize your emotions, do not forbid yourself to experience negative experiences and allow yourself to enjoy pleasant ones, notice and appreciate them;
• Devote yourself entirely to the business that you are currently engaged in, do not procrastinate, do not be distracted by secondary “quick” things;
• Do not regret the past, but learn from it, do not be afraid of the future, but take actions to improve it.

All of this, as well as much more, relates to mindfulness. As you can see, there is nothing complicated, unusual or abstruse here. All these components of mindfulness are, in fact, useful rules of life for a healthy person who does not give a damn about his life.

However, not all people succeed in adopting these skills into their daily lives. It is difficult to understand other people, and sometimes it is even harder to understand yourself. Not everyone is able to look at the world with a sober eye, not lie to themselves and be aware of the importance of their actions and their significance for their future. Not all people are able to be brave. And this is the first step and, perhaps, the most important point of a conscious person. Because only by being brave enough to face the truth, you will be able to see the real, genuine picture of events. And only in this way, knowing the truth, you will be able to change something in yourself.
