In the beginning of a new year we make personnel and working plans for the coming year. Guarantee of successful realization could be ability to deal with time, skills of its effective usage. And here below are the best principles, rules and methods of time management.

Pareto Principle

This principle says that 20% of all the efforts give 80% of results. Let’s imagine that you are looking for some information in the book, then 80 % of information you would find in 20% of the book. If you know what you are interested in, then you would easily find it, having read separate pages. In this way you would save 80 % of your time.

Matrix of Eisenhower

In a certain period of time a person could fulfill one task. But which exactly, if there are a lot of tasks? For this purpose, there is the matrix of Eisenhower, which sorts out deals according to their urgency and importance. Importance of your deal is influenced by how it influences your business, and urgency is influenced by to which time the deal should be fulfilled to and is it connected with a specific date.

Mind maps («Intellect-maps»)

Intellect- map is a record of materials as a structure, which goes from the center to outlines and branching out into small parts. In other words, this is a perfect substitution to the text, tables, schemes and diagrams. But why exactly this kind of way? Because humane thinking is not organized in a straight line, as a text, but it has branched structure that is why information, recorded in this way, is remembered easier.

Pyramid of Franklin

Young Benjamin Franklin in his youth made a plan of achievements for his life and, obviously, he succeeded as now the structure of his plan is used by many people all over the world. Franklin’s system of planning is based in the following way:

  • Main life values (what a person wants from his life)
  • Global goal (worthy purpose of a creative person)
  • General plan of goal achievement
  • Long-lasting plan (for years)
  • Short-lasting plan (month, week)
  • Plan for a day

The main rule of the pyramid is that every next element is tightly based on the previous one, it means it is based on the honest answer of a certain person to a definite question. And then, when you have the answer, you could go to the next step and finally make plans for a day according to your highest and true interests, it means according to what you really need from your life.

Method «ABCD»

This effective method of prioritizing objectives. Firstly, you make a list of all that you need to do during the day. Then you write a letter A,B,C or D in front of every clause. Every letter means a certain type of task. A- is the most important, serious consequence for a failure to fulfill. B is good to be done, but consequences are quite mild. C is likely to be done, but in case it is not fulfilled there are no serious consequences. D is work which could be delegated to someone else. E could be removed from the list. The main rule of this method is to start doing A-1 immediately and work on it until it is fully finished.

Firstly, eat a frog

If in the morning you eat a frog, then the rest of the day would be wonderful, as the worst is behind – Mark Twain said. That is why specialists in time management advice for the first time to eat your worst “frog”, it means to fulfill the most important and difficult task during the day. As soon as you do it, it would be much easier for you and more pleasant to cope with the rest of the deals.
