Employee Value Profile as a Hiring Factor

For management and motivation based on values, it is important to “join” value profiles – personal and corporate: they must match. Ideally, for an employee, his company is a reference object, that is, with what he wants to identify himself to a certain extent, with what he wants to be associated. This is how identity is born.

How to understand that this is possible and that it happened?

Firstly, it is important to understand at the entrance what value profile a person comes to the company with. In the private sector, especially in a small enterprise, the business itself is inseparable from the personality of the owner, the top manager. It will not be possible to work comfortably, motivated, and successfully work there without accepting its values, ideology, vision of the process and result.

Secondly, everything is finally clarified and implemented or not implemented at the stage of contracting. The nature and scope of the tasks to be performed by the employee are discussed in the most detailed and open manner. And we are talking not only about the standard list of items from the job description. The principal points beyond this are negotiated for acceptability and willingness on the part of the employee to be flexible.

Thirdly, to assess how significant the deviations of the employee’s value profile (potential, new or already working, whose behavior has changed) from the value profile of the company are. Understand whether it is worth and whether it is possible to correct them. To integrate into the team, management takes certain actions aimed at supporting the corporate values ​​of the company by employees. This includes team-building activities. Further monitoring of the effectiveness of these activities is carried out. For example, there is a company whose values ​​are teamwork, professionalism, customer focus and proactivity. A person comes to the company who is completely suitable in all respects and resonates with all values, except for teamwork. Then management is engaged in its involvement, integration into collective forms of work and communication. The desired effect can be given by his inclusion in the project team when he sees his commitment to team KPIs. Then psychological and functional mechanisms are activated in him, ensuring his connection with the team and productive cooperation. For this, in particular, a trial period is needed.
