Here are some tips on how to learn how to change and become a flexible leader.

Manage with purpose. Think about what you want to achieve when you instruct employees. Don’t let this turn into an automatic action. Each task should have a goal and a clear understanding of how, with the help of one or another action of your employees, the company will move closer to the desired result. When you answer these questions for yourself, make sure that your team also understands what you expect from it. This way you can overcome any obstacles on your way.

Learn from your team. You should not consider yourself the smartest and close yourself off from new knowledge. The status of a leader does not mean that he cannot learn something new from his subordinates. On the contrary, it needs to be done. Also, do not neglect the opinion of employees. Be open to different points of view from yours and keep in mind that in some areas someone may be more knowledgeable than you. Otherwise, if you do not take into account the opinion of the employees, they will notice it, and their motivation will decline, because they are not being listened to. Accordingly, the effectiveness of the team will suffer. On the contrary, if you show people that you are open to their opinions, then they will understand that you respect them as professionals, and your trust will help them put forward the right ideas.

Encourage employees to find solutions themselves. Talk about the obvious things and smoothly lead the conversation towards a solution. It is important that at the same time you yourself were an example for employees. Always be calm and remain optimistic, which will help you find a solution. Remember that you don’t need an answer here and now, so don’t rush people and get nervous. Set the right direction of thought, and the answer will surely be found.

Also, teach employees not to run to you right away when they have some kind of problem. Let them first think about a possible solution themselves, think about the problem, make a plan to solve it and come to you with a ready-made initiative.
