What is the difference between coaching and business training?

Coaching and training are not new in our life. Anyway, a lot of people until now do not understand what is the difference between these two terms and practices, which are beyond them. It is high time to know, in case you didn’t know before, or to remember for those, you knew but forgot.   

Training is useful for cases, when you want to learn something specific and, what is more frequent, standard. For example, public speeches. For this purpose, there are specific recommendations, which, as a rule, perfectly fit all participants of a training program. That is why training works perfectly when a participant has a request for solving a typical problem, and a trainer has a good, proved with time, educational system of relevant skills. In this case training really looks like sport training. That is a trainer, that is a team and those are exercises – they are common and for all, a trainer would advise you personally.  That does not mean that such training “for all” is bad, just its format is not planned for an individual approach.  That is the main disadvantage of training. You, as a participant, would certainly get some useful decisions, but it is guaranteed that it would correspond to you personally, your character, temper, personality, current situation and so on. There is a chance not to find “your” decision, which would help to achieve progress.

In this individual moment coaching shows itself fully. A coach works only with you personally. But he will be, anyway, not your personal trainer, but a guide in the way to true yourself. A coach does not teach anything, he does not give ready recipes for formation or boost any skills.  

Coaching, being a complete philosophy, is based on that a person has questions about his development, which are interesting for him. These questions are to be asked correctly, which is done by a coach during coach sessions. Another thing that a client should form a request correctly, he should understand what he wants and what for does he need this strictly set goal.

If we speak about coaching in organizations, its usage instead of training is reasonable when a company does not have any ready decision for a business task. Let’s imagine that you have started a new project. Then a coach is invited, who organizes meetings of a project team in a necessary schedule (for example, 2-3 weeks for 3-4 hours), and due to such  meetings employees not only reach their goal closely, but also strengthen team cooperation , knocking the bottom of the problem.
