What is the difference between a career consultant and a career coach?

We can say that this is a two-stage work. Or that these specialists can work with the same client one after another. Career counseling is the first stage. A career consultant orients the client in the market, professions, potential, skills. He suggests and recommends to the client how he can open up, move to another level, where he can develop better. It also provides information about which industries are growing, and which are stagnating and dying. As a client, according to his specifics, experience, personal characteristics, to build a career and a career of what kind – vertical or horizontal. And what competencies need to be upgraded.

The coaching stage begins when the client needs to be accompanied, helping him to follow the chosen path. This sometimes requires changes at the behavioral level. For example, he used to think that he was actively looking for a job, and the coach shows him his passivity and sets him up for a proactive position, for greater independence in finding the right job, helping to determine the true goals of employment.

The task of career coaching can be not only finding a job, but also changing it, developing in the same place, promotion, choosing a university, getting a new profession. The main thing that a career coach can help is to convince his client that he has now hired himself to find a job or a platform for professional development and personal growth.
